Several foods are being recalled in Quebec, including chicken and mayo

5 June 20254 Mins Read

From pastries and plant-based products, several foods have recently been recalled in Quebec due to potential health risks.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Quebec’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) have flagged products for issues ranging from E. coli contamination and undeclared allergens to pieces of bone and improper packaging.

Here’s a roundup of the latest food recalls that could affect Quebec consumers:

Hellmann’s Classic Burger Sauce

Bottles of this sauce could contain backteria.

Hellmann’s

Recalled product: Hellmann’s Classic Burger Sauce, 325 mL — Lot code 20250903GF

Reason for recall: Bloating and spoilage issues indicating potential bacterial activity.

Distribution: Sold nationally, including Quebec.

Action: Do not consume. Return to place of purchase or discard.

MAPAQ

Recalled product: Spicy Marinated Eggplant, 750 mL — sold under the label “ÉBÈNE”

Recall reason: The product may support the growth of Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that produces botulism toxin. It was not prepared or packaged in a way that ensures its safety for consumption.

Distribution: Sold at Moabi Gourmet, 551 Jeanne-d’Arc Avenue, Montreal, until the end of December 2024. The product was stored at room temperature in a glass jar with a metal lid.

  • Unagi Don Froid
(All sold refrigerated in plastic trays or bowls)

Recall reason: These items may contain undeclared allergens including wheat, soy, milk, eggs, barley (gluten), and potentially nuts, sulphites, shellfish, peanuts, fish, and mustard. The issue affects all lots without proper allergen labelling. These undeclared ingredients could trigger serious reactions in those with allergies or celiac disease.

Distribution: Sold at T&T Supermarket locations in Brossard (9750 Leduc Blvd) and Montreal (300 Sainte-Croix Avenue).

Action: People with food allergies or gluten-related conditions should not consume these products. Return them to the store or throw them out.

MAPAQ

Recalled product: Plant-Based Chicken — unit size, all lots without sesame listed on the label

Recall reason: Oplante, a food business located on Saint-Denis Street in Montreal, is recalling its frozen plant-based chicken due to undeclared sesame. While other allergens were listed, sesame was not, which could pose serious risks to those with sesame allergies.

Distribution: Sold exclusively at Oplante (2115 Saint-Denis, Montreal) in clear plastic bags, frozen.

Action: Anyone with a sesame allergy should not eat this product. Return it to the store or safely discard it.

Olymel chicken

Recalled product: Olymel Cooked Diced Chicken 1/2 in, 4 kg (packed between February 3 and April 30, 2025)

Distribution: Sold in Quebec, primarily to hotels, restaurants, and institutions

Action: Do not consume. Return to the place of purchase or discard.
