Iconic '80s Actress, 76, Is Unrecognizable in Rare Sighting

9 June 20252 Mins Read

The ’80s were a truly unforgettable decade in landmark TV, especially when it comes to sitcoms. And among the most iconic from the time period is Mama’s Family, the Carol Burnett Show spin-off starring Vicki Lawrence that ran from 1983 to 1990.

One of the stars of the show stepped out in Los Angeles this week: Beverly Archer. Now 76, the actress who played Mama’s best friend Iola in the series looks a lot different than she did back then!

In photos published by the Daily Mail, Archer can be seen out and about in Los Angeles, totally unrecognizable compared to how she looked during her sitcom days.

Mama’s Family isn’t the only show that Archer is known for, though. Following her first role playing Lorraine in TheNancy Walker Show in 1976, she would go on to appear in shows like Family Ties, ALF, and Full House, along with movies including Clueless and Jumanji.

Archer’s final role was in 2002, when she supplied her voice talents in an episode of Rugrats.

The actress has been married to actor Robert Bernard since 1976, and has lived a much more quiet life since retiring from acting more than two decades ago.

Back in 2012, Archer gave a rare interview to Sitcoms Online, looking back on her career.

“I certainly enjoyed doing comedy, but I would have enjoyed doing dramatic roles as well,” she said. “But in our version of Hollywood, people who look like me don’t do that. So, once you get into comedy, that is where you stay, which was fine with me. I loved doing comedy, and there is no greater gift than coming to work laughing every day.”
