Toronto just got a new ‘general’ store and it’s got the funkiest stuff

9 June 20252 Mins Read

A video of this bright and colourful new store came across my social media the other day, and it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. Bananas, described as a “whimsical yet chic take on a classic general store,” is Midtown Toronto’s latest addition, and I am truly obsessed.

First of all, the interior is a maximalist’s dream. Decked out with tons of pink, funky fixtures and lighting, the visuals alone are worth the visit.

Let’s start with the backstory, though. Bananas was opened by a pair of besties (every girl’s dream), Joanna Stern and Lauren Shulman. The two are local to Midtown Toronto and handpick every single thing that hits the shelves.

The items you can shop for are “the perfect blend of eccentric luxury – think artisan bags from Italy alongside the hottest squishes and fidgets,” shares Bananas. Toys, accessories, home goods, you name it, they’ve got it.

Oh, they also have a candy wall. Yep, you can get a sweet treat fix while shopping, too.

If you’re looking for a gift for a friend or family member, this is the perfect place to grab something.

Bananas is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Shopping local is one thing I love to do when I can, and if you’re on the same vibe, I recommend checking this store out now that it’s open.

Happy shopping!

Bananas

Where: 2582 Yonge St.
