Vancouver is getting a free beachside concert at sunset this summer

10 June 20252 Mins Read

Who doesn’t love a free summer concert? One of Vancouver’s most beloved summertime traditions, Symphony at Sunset, is back at Sunset Beach Park this July for its sixth year. The annual event brings together the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and hundreds of beach-goers for a magical evening of live orchestral music surrounded by stunning city and ocean views.

Last year, the open-air symphony featured a collection of classical hits from films like Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean.

This year, VSO’s Music Director Otto Tausk will lead a performance by the VSO that will include the well-known scores of Star Wars and Harry Potter on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Road closures and parking info

Spaces are first-come, first-served, with the following road closures in place on the evening of Saturday, July 5, 2025:

  • Thurlow Street, between Pacific and Beach, will be closed from 4 to 10 p.m.
  • Beach Avenue, between Thurlow and Jervis, will be open to local traffic from 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Beach Avenue, between Thurlow and Jervis, will be closed from 7 to 11 p.m.
  • Bute Street, between Pacific and Beach, will be closed from 7 to 11 p.m.

The City notes that on-street parking will be limited, so attendees are encouraged to bike, walk, or take transit. The Jervis, Sunset Beach, and Vancouver Aquatic Centre, North parking lots will all be closed for the festival, with the exception of an accessible drop-off area at the Sunset Beach lot.

The park will be open all day for picnic-goers to set up early. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring low chairs to avoid blocking the view for others. According to the City, an accessible viewing area will be set up on the south side of the event grounds.

There will also be several food trucks parked throughout the grounds in addition to the Sunset Beach Concession stand, which will remain open later than usual.

Mark your calendars, concert lovers.

When: Saturday, July 5, 2025
Time: 8 to 9:30 p.m.
Where: 1204 Beach Ave.
Cost: Free
