Jalisco, Mexico to Add 38 New Hotels in a $1 Billion Investment Initiative

11 June 20253 Mins Read

  • State Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro leads a press conference titled ‘Historic Investment in Jalisco: New Hotels’

Jalisco announces a $1 billion investment for constructing 38 new hotels, aiming to add 4,578 rooms across the state by 2028.

Private investors have committed to investing over $1 billion in constructing 38 new hotels across the state, a significant development for Jalisco’s tourism and hospitality sector. This initiative, set to unfold between 2025 and 2028, will increase the state’s hotel capacity by 4,578 rooms. The investment will be distributed among several global and local hotel brands, as well as independent properties.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is set to operate seven new hotels with an investment of $165 million. Hilton plans to spend $90 million on four properties. Marriott has allocated $65 million for four hotels, while Hyatt will invest $295 million in three hotels in Puerto Vallarta. Additional investments include $230 million by Chablé El Tezcalame Tomatlán, $45 million by ME by Meliá, $26 million by NH Guadalajara Suites, and $15 million by Four Points by Sheraton. The Brada Collection will invest $8 million in two hotels, and other smaller investments include Serenzzo Tapalpa at $2 million, Shaalam San Juan Cosalá at $6 million, Suites Liveup at $20 million, and World Hotels at $13 million. Furthermore, eight independent hotels will collectively invest $100 million.

These developments are strategically located across various key destinations within Jalisco, including the Guadalajara metropolitan area, Puerto Vallarta, and Costalegre. This expansion is part of a broader economic growth strategy led by the state government, aiming to bolster Jalisco as a leading destination for domestic and international tourists.

The state’s tourism sector is expected to play a crucial role in its economic development, to exceed 90,000 hotel rooms by 2030. This growth is supported by a robust increase in visitor numbers, with Jalisco hosting 11 million visitors from January to April 2025, marking a 1.6% increase from the previous year. The state also benefits from a strong infrastructure, including two international airports in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, which support domestic and international travel.

The timing of these hotel openings is strategically planned to coincide with major upcoming events, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is expected to attract over 2.5 million visitors to the region. Twelve of the 38 new hotels are scheduled to open before the tournament begins, positioning Jalisco to capitalize on the influx of international visitors.
