An Ontario town with European influence is Canada’s “cobblestone capital”

17 June 20253 Mins Read

Have you ever been told, “Don’t waste your money on this, we have it at home?” Well, what if we told you the same sentiment can be applied to travelling abroad? Stay with me here. You don’t have to travel to Europe to experience walking along cobblestone steps and past historic buildings. Paris, Ontario, is filled with cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and artisan boutiques, resembling towns on the eastern side of the world. It’s no coincidence that it also shares the same name as the French capital.

Next stop: Paris, Ontario

About an hour and a half west of Toronto is Paris, Ontario, one of the prettiest towns in Canada, according to its official website. It’s described as a “place where a short stroll, a single bite, or a quiet moment of reflection can magically transport you through space and in time.”

Sounds day trip worthy.

Cobblestone beauty

But being pretty isn’t the only thing Paris is known for. It’s also known as the “cobblestone capital of Canada.” You can thank its numerous aged cobblestone homes and structures.

According to the County of Brant, these buildings were constructed in the mid-1800s, and now only 12 homes and two cobblestone churches are left. If you’re interested in learning more about them, you can embark on a self-guided tour through the town.

What else is there to do in Paris, Ontario?

If you’re looking for more photo ops, you can also get a lovely view of the Grand River and relax at the historic Penman’s Dam park and waterfall.

Other must see spots include Lion’s Park and the William Street Bridge that overlooks the shops and restaurants found along the river’s edge.

Hungry? After this adventure, we sure would be! Visit the historic Paris Bakery! They have been serving up fresh pastries and treats since 1927. They’re open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A trip to Paris is nothing without croissants, of course!

So if you’re eager for a trip to Europe but it’s not looking promising for 2025, visit the next best thing.

Paris, Ontario won’t disappoint.
