Sifu dev’s new game Rematch launches without crossplay, but it’s coming

19 June 20252 Mins Read

Sifu developer Sloclap launched its new soccer title Rematch on Thursday, but the arcade-style soccer game has kicked off without crossplay, limiting players to their own platforms. As Rematch is an online, team-based experience, it’s only natural for players to expect crossplay to team up with their friends across platforms, but the functionality will not be present during the game’s launch.

During previous beta tests, developer Sloclap said on its Rematch Discord server that the team had been working on getting crossplay ready for launch and the feature is at the top of its priority list. But the option is not ready for launch, leading Sloclap to apologize to early adopters.

“We understand many of you were looking forward to playing Rematch across platforms from day one. We did our utmost to include crossplay at launch, but Rematch is the studio’s first crossplay title, and we faced unforeseen technical complexities which prevented us from having this feature ready in time,” the studio said on its official blog. “We should have communicated as soon as it became apparent that crossplay wouldn’t be available at launch, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience and frustration it caused to some of our players.

The developer added that “along with bugfixes, crossplay is our absolute highest priority, we’re committed to delivering this feature swiftly, and we’ll share a more precise deadline as soon as possible. We already have a basic working version from a technical standpoint, but we need to implement the relevant interfaces, before debugging and polishing it, and finally passing console certifications successfully – all this takes time but we are doing our best to move forward quickly.”

Sloclap doesn’t have an official timeline for when crossplay will be released, and said it hopes that players remember features like crossplay can take a long time to develop.

Rematch is available now on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. If you’re looking to bring out your inner Ronaldinho, check out Polygon’s beginner tips and tricks for Rematch.
