The next James Bond movie will be directed by Canadian Denis Villeneuve

26 June 20252 Mins Read

It’s a big week for Canada! With Canada Day just around the corner, news broke recently that the next James Bond movie will be directed by Canadian Denis Villeneuve.

Amazon MGM Studio made the announcement, sharing that the director, known for his work on the Dune movies, Arrival, and Blade Runner, would be at the helm for the 007 film.

Sharing with Amazon MGM Studio, Villeneuve said, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan.”

“To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour,” he continued.

Villeneuve was born in Gentilly, Que., and studied at the University of Quebec before working with the National Film Board of Canada.

The NFB actually funded his first film, titled REW FFWD, premiering in 1994.

To date, the 57-year-old has racked up four Oscar nominations and has won seven Canadian Screen Awards, five British Academy Film Awards, and two Golden Globes.

Congratulations, and go make Canada proud, Denis Villeneuve!
