Float down this scenic lazy river with crystal-clear waters

28 June 20252 Mins Read

Time to float your cares away! Venturing down a lazy river sounds like the ideal way to kick off summer if you ask us, and this weekend is the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Situated in the town of Princeton, the beautiful Similkameen River meanders through the Okanagan highlands, offering floaters a slightly faster, more exciting pace than many other lazy rivers in B.C., all surrounded by spectacular views of the valley, mountains, and surrounding wildlife like eagles.

As one of the most popular activities in the valley, floating down the scenic river offers visitors hours of serenity as they drift between Bromley Rock and the Red Bridge, or the Red Bridge and Cawston.

So grab your inner tubes, your favourite summer drink, and get ready to float through the river’s crystal-clear waters.

Here are all the floating times on the Similkameen River:

  • Bromley Rock to the Red Bridge: 8 hours
  • Red Bridge to Keremeos Pine Park: 2 hours
  • Red Bridge to Cawston’s Kobau Park: 3.5 hours

The only catch is that there are no shuttles here, so you’ll need to arrange to be picked up at your final floating destination. It might take a bit more planning, but the journey is certainly worth it.

According to Similkameen Valley Tourism, visitors can enter the river from the Bridge of Dreams in Princeton and float, kayak, or canoe all the way to Bromley Rock or to Cawston. Those looking for another nearby river to enjoy can spend a lazy day kayaking or canoeing on the Tulameen River, or between Coalmont and Princeton.

While the currents are slow-running, it’s still important to use caution when in or near the river. Similkameen Valley Tourism notes that water flow can fluctuate with the season, and there are always undercurrents to look out for.

Stay safe and enjoy your float!
