Waldorf Astoria Brand Expands into Nordic Region with Helsinki Hotel

Hilton has signed a management agreement to rebrand The Hotel Maria in Helsinki as Waldorf Astoria

Hilton has announced the signing of a management agreement with M&L Group to rebrand The Hotel Maria in Helsinki as the Waldorf Astoria Helsinki. This development marks the introduction of the Waldorf Astoria brand to the Nordic region. The property, located in the Kruununhaka district of Helsinki, is set to undergo a rebranding process later this year.

The building, originally designed in 1885 by architect Lagerspetz, will continue to operate during a transitional period before officially becoming the Waldorf Astoria Helsinki. The hotel will feature 116 rooms and include amenities such as signature dining options, a bar, a fitness studio, and a Nordic wellness spa with a traditional Finnish sauna.

This agreement is part of Hilton’s strategy to expand its luxury hotel offerings in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The Waldorf Astoria Helsinki will become the fourth Hilton-branded property in the Finnish capital, reflecting the growing demand for high-end leisure and business travel in the region.

The Waldorf Astoria brand, spanning five continents, comprises a portfolio of 67 hotels, either currently operating or in development. The Helsinki location will join recent openings such as the Waldorf Astoria Osaka and upcoming projects in cities like New York, Rabat, and London.

The rebranding of The Hotel Maria is part of a broader collaboration between Hilton and M&L Group, which has seen the development of multiple hotel properties across various international locations.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Hilton, said, “We’re delighted to be collaborating with M&L Group to introduce the Waldorf Astoria brand to Finland. As we near 300 luxury hotels in EMEA, it’s fantastic to have signed our first in the Nordics. The Finnish capital has seen growing travel demand in recent years, and we look forward to serving an even wider range of traveller needs as we open our fourth property in the city.
