Popular Department Store Closing Locations in 2 Big Cities Very Soon

3 July 20252 Mins Read

A very popular luxury department store chain is set to close stores in two major cities in just a few weeks, according to a new report.

The 124-year-old retailer Nordstrom has been a go-to destination for high-end fashion, cosmetics, accessories, and personalized styling services. However, in the next six months or so, some customers may have to drive a little further to reach their nearest location.

According to USA Today, Nordstrom plans to close two locations by the end of August, one in a beachfront neighborhood in California and another in the largest metropolitan area in Missouri.

A spokesperson for the mega retailer confirmed that the two stores scheduled to close in just a few weeks are located in Santa Monica, California, and the other in St. Louis, Missouri.

  • 1453 Saint Louis Galleria in St. Louis, Missouri – closing by Aug. 24
  • 20 Broadway in Santa Monica, California – closing by Aug. 26

According to Fox2 reporters, Dick’s Sporting Goods is set to replace Nordstrom’s St. Louis vacancy.

The company said it hopes to transition employees from the affected stores to other locations in the area that will remain open.

“We believe we’ll be best able to serve customers in each region by leveraging our surrounding stores and through our digital channels,” the spokesperson told the publication. “Decisions like this are never easy, and we understand the impact they have on our team members. We’re committed to taking care of our employees through this transition, including supporting those who are interested in finding another role within Nordstrom.”

Nordstrom is the latest major retailer to reveal it will be shutting down some stores, following JCPenney, At Home, Torrid and even Kroger. This appears to be its first confirmed store closures since the company went private in a $6.25 billion deal in May, in which the Nordstrom family and Mexican retailer El Puerto de Liverpool acquired the company.

The company did not suggest that more store closures were planned at this time.
