Edgar Wright breaks down the trailer for The Running Man • Journal • A Magazine • , Life in canada

3 July 20251 Min Read

The last time The Running Man was brought to the big screen, it was in the form of a bouldering Arnold Schwarzenegger, deemed a criminal after refusing to obey a murderous military command, and forced to run through dripping wet streets in a skintight leotard while dropping one-liners over the course of a single treacherous night.

Four decades later, filmmaker Edgar Wright has resurrected Stephen King’s novel for a new take on the dystopian world, one that adheres closer to the source material in its portrayal of Ben Richards (now played by Glen Powell) as a man caught in dire financial straights who signs up for the titular game show where he must survive a gauntlet of assassins in order to win a cash prize.

The trailer for Wright’s adaptation dropped this week, and it teased a riveting ride of unique locations, dynamic action and exciting characters captured by an impressive ensemble including Powell, Michael Cera, Colman Domingo, Josh Brolin and William H. Macy. It left us with plenty to ponder on, so we dropped some of our most burning questions to Wright himself.
