Sandy Alberta beaches you should visit this summer

5 July 20253 Mins Read

Summer has just begun, but time flies when you’re having a blast. From markets to mayhem, festivals to fresh air, there are plenty of exciting things to do this season, but don’t forget to wind down from time to time. The best place to soak up the sun? From one of the many beaches in Alberta.

Wild Rose Country may not have palm trees and coconuts, but it does have scenic views, rivers, and numerous lakes with sandy shores.

Want to swim, lounge, or build a castle before the water freezes over? Here are just a few places where you can do so.

Sylvan is by far one of the most popular spots on this list and for good reason. Here you can have a nice lunch with your butt in the sand, take a walk, have some ice cream, and make some memories.

Located 20 minutes from the Town of Slave Lake, you’ll find Devonshire Beach.

An Alberta oasis with 1.5 kilometres of soft sand, Devonshire is well groomed, has comfortable water, and (as if it couldn’t get any better) allows dogs if they’re kept on a leash.

Where: 2M0, Range Rd. 55, Widewater, Alta.

Another Alberta gem! With several restaurants, campgrounds, and shops nearby, Ebeling Beach is busy but offers a day’s worth of fun in the sun.

Located on the edge of Gull Lake, guests are encouraged to bring a beach towel, a bathing suit, friends, and some snacks, then hit the sand.

Alberta Beach is warm, has sand, is great for families, and is located just over an hour west of Edmonton.

For a day well spent, check it out and lounge in the grassy area, have a picnic lunch, and play mermaids with your loved ones.

Love birds? Hit Rochon Sands Provincial Park, and go swimming, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing or fishing. They’ve really got it all.

You won’t be disappointed, Alberta!

Where: 1 Bay View St., Rochon Sands, Alta.

Lake Newell is one of the largest artificial lakes in southern Alberta, but not only is it big, it’s also one of the warmest spots to go for a swim in the entire province.

Go ahead and enjoy a day of canoeing, swimming, watersports, and sailing. You won’t regret the drive.

Where: Lake Newell, Newell County No. 4, Alta.

Want to go for a drive? Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is another must-visit destination, but we recommend spending a weekend there rather than just a day.

Not only does this island paradise have cabins, a campground, and hiking trails, but it also has a beach where you can relax, go swimming, paddleboarding, or fishing.

If you know, you know! Kinosoo Beach is an Alberta must-visit, favoured by those in search of sand, sun and fun. In fact, according to Travel Alberta, it was named one of Canadian Geographic’s top 25 beaches.

Don’t forget a towel, snacks, friends, and drinks, because you’ll want to really take your time here.
