Montreal weather in August will be ‘warmer than normal,’ as meteors light up the night sky, Life in canada

5 July 20252 Mins Read

If recent heat waves in the city have left you burnt out (literally and figuratively), you might be curious to know what Montreal weather has in store for the rest of August.

According to the forecast, you shouldn’t put away your sunscreen and sun hat just yet.

Despite the fact that Quebec students are preparing to return to school at the end of the month, The Weather Network reports that “an early fall isn’t in the cards for the vast majority of Canadians this August as a warmer and drier-than-normal pattern looks to dominate the country.”

This includes Montreal, which is expected to deal with “above-seasonal” temperatures — like most of the country’s population centres — throughout the month ahead.

Caught in the middle of two weather patterns on both sides of Canada, it seems Quebec will likely ping-pong between “stretches of stormy weather” and “calmer and drier spells” in the coming weeks, The Weather Network says.

But regardless of what the weather brings, you can count on the night skies to provide us with a ‘cool’ distraction.

Two separate meteor showers are currently visible from Montreal with the Southern Delta Aqariids lasting until August 21 and the famous Perseid Meteor Shower ongoing until September 1.

Keep in mind that, per MétéoMédia, the peak time to view the Perseids this year is August 12.

“Up to 100 meteors an hour could streak across the sky during the night of August 11-12. If Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate and there are lots of clouds, the night before or the night after won’t disappoint either,” MétéoMédia says.

Historically, some of the best places in Montreal to catch meteor showers have included Parc Frédéric-Back and the Belvédère Outremont lookout. The Montreal Botanical Garden also has viewing events planned this year from August 10 to 15, starting at 8:30 p.m.

Want to escape the urban light pollution for an optimal celestial show? Mont-Megantic National Park’s ASTROLab will shuttle you up to the top of their observatory and hook you up with telescopes from August 9 to 11. Or, you could check out the Perseid Festival happening at Domaine Saint-Bernard in Mont-Tremblant on August 9, featuring astronomical observations, a solar system exhibition, guided hikes and more.

Aside from the storms and the heat, August is looking pretty lit!
