Movie Monday: ‘Jurassic World Rebirth,’ Uh, Finds a Way, Best TV Shows to Binge Watch

7 July 20252 Mins Read

Why keep resurrecting long-dead dinos despite the sharp teeth and human-squashing feet? Money.

Turns out, that’s the same answer for why the Jurassic World series hasn’t allowed itself to go extinct. The series’ newest addition, Jurassic World Rebirth, hatched $91.5 million in its opening weekend. I don’t think that’s enough money to build a whole new dino park, but it’s certainly enough to take first place at the box office.

But turn those dinosaurs into oil, and you’ve got the start of a nice fuel source for F1® The Movie. That movie crossed the finish line in second after it earned $26.1 million domestically. Its worldwide cume, so far, is $293.6 million.

The box office then returns to its reptile kick with How to Train Your Dragon. The third-place live-action remake snatched up another $11 million this weekend. In total, the movie’s worldwide gross sits at $516.9 million.

Pixar’s Elio abducted $5.7 million this weekend. It’s good enough for fourth place at the box office, but it’s not exactly an inter-stellar performance for the animation giant. In total, Elio has shuttled a mere $96.7 million into Pixar’s pockets. Given that it had a $250 million budget, the film’s only success will be acting as a black hole upon Pixar’s profits.

Rounding out the top five is 28 Years Later. This week, it earned $4.6 million, bringing its worldwide cume to $125.8 million.

Looking down the list, 1984’s This Is Spinal Tap—re-released in theaters in anticipation of the fictional band’s mockumentary sequel—landed in 10th place (which, in this case, is one more than 11). It earned $931,700.
