Montreal has 2 of Canada’s best 3 hotels but a luxury spot out west took first prize

9 July 20253 Mins Read

Montreal is known for headlining Canada’s food and festival scenes, but now it has something else to brag about: luxury hotels.

According to Travel + Leisure’s 2025 World’s Best Awards, two Montreal hotels ranked among the best in Canada, and both placed higher than any in Toronto.

The city’s Ritz-Carlton Montreal came in at #2 overall, while the Four Seasons Hotel climbed to #3 thanks to glowing reader reviews about its service, amenities, and walkable downtown location.

That means Montreal claimed two of the top three city hotels in the country this year, just behind the #1 Fairmont Empress in Victoria, B.C., and ahead of Toronto’s highest entry, the St. Regis.

Each year, nearly 180,000 Travel + Leisure readers vote in the outlet’s annual World’s Best Awards, casting over 657,000 votes across 8,700 hotels, resorts, cities, and more. Hotels were scored based on rooms, location, service, food, and overall value, with final scores reflecting the average across categories.

Quebec didn’t stop there, though. Quebec City’s Auberge Saint-Antoine landed at #6, praised for its individuality and charm, while the iconic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac rounded out the top 10 with its storybook setting and rich history.

Here’s how Quebec hotels stacked up in T+L’s 2025 rankings:

Top 10 hotels in Canada (2025):

  1. Fairmont Empress – Victoria, BC (Score: 94.44)

  5.  Four Seasons Hotel Montreal – Montreal, QC (Score: 93.66)
  6.

  7. St. Regis Toronto – Toronto, ON (Score: 93.50)
  8.

  9. Four Seasons Hotel Toronto – Toronto, ON (Score: 92.70)
  10.

  11.  Auberge Saint-Antoine – Quebec City, QC (Score: 92.51)
  12.

  13. Fairmont Pacific Rim – Vancouver, BC (Score: 92.19)

  15. Ritz-Carlton, Toronto – Toronto, ON (Score: 92.00)

  18.

  19.  Fairmont Le Château Frontenac – Quebec City, QC (Score: 89.82)
  20.

In the resort category, Manoir Hovey in North Hatley held on strong at #4, keeping its title as Quebec’s top luxury retreat — even if it did lose the #1 crown to the Four Seasons Resort & Residences Whistler.

Top 5 Resorts in Canada (2025):

  1. Four Seasons Resort & Residences Whistler – BC (Score: 97.52)
  2.

  3. Fairmont Chateau Whistler – BC (Score: 96.52)

  5. The Wickaninnish Inn – Tofino, BC (Score: 96.44)

  7.  Manoir Hovey – North Hatley, QC (Score: 95.00)
  8.

  9. Cabot Cape Breton – Inverness, NS (Score: 93.26)
  10.

With three city hotels and one resort in the top five of their respective categories, Quebec is clearly still one of Canada’s top luxury destinations — whether you’re heading downtown or into the woods.
