After delays and a missed spring opening, Canada’s Wonderland’s new flagship attraction, AlpenFury, is officially opening on Saturday, July 12.
Canada’s Wonderland announced the news of the record-breaking launch coaster’s impending opening on Thursday morning, ending months of speculation about when the long-awaited attraction would welcome its first riders.
The park’s 18th roller coaster will launch riders out of Wonderland’s centrepiece, Wonder Mountain, up 50 metres into the air on a track that reach top speeds of 115 km/h and covers much of the park with twists, turns, and a record-breaking nine inversions.
“AlpenFury will deliver an epic, record-breaking thrill,” said Heather Hill, park manager and vice-president of operations.
“With the combination of the two launches, that straight vertical climb and nine wild inversions, it will provide an action-packed, unforgettable experience. We’re excited to add AlpenFury to our lineup of world-class attractions.”
While many riders will rush to queue for that first-day experience on July 12, the park will also be hosting a charity drive that gives the public the chance to purchase a VIP ticket for an exclusive two-hour window to ride AlpenFury.
Wonderland’s Ride for a Cause Day, taking place July 18 and benefitting SickKids Hospital, will offer this rare experience with AlpenFury along with park admission, parking, and a private catered lunch.
