Warm waters and trails through glacial landscapes await at an Ontario park

11 July 20252 Mins Read

It’s as nice as it sounds! Northern Ontario’s Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park is the summer getaway you didn’t know you needed to take. The park features a long curving lip of a sandy beach with warm, shallow water — need I say more?

Located between Chapleau and Timmins, Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park is a popular spot in the summer months, not only for the sandy beach but also for the stunning hiking trails that lead visitors through ancient glacial landscapes with kettle lakes and eskers.

The four hiking trails are Saw Lake, Quaking Bog, Teck Lake, and The Esker.

Saw Lake Trail is one of the most popular trails, which leads up and over “beautiful esker ridges and continues along the shores of serene Saw Lake, a small glacier lake.”

According to the park, the Esker Trail is a must-visit, too.

“If you feel like a scenic walk with panoramic views, follow a small gravel road which takes you up above the tree tops, providing views of green-hued kettle lakes, mature stands of forest, abundant wildlife and the most spectacular view of Ivanhoe Lake anywhere in the park,” Ontario Parks boasts.

Teck Lake is the trail leading you to a small kettle lake formed by ancient glaciers — a photo opportunity you won’t want to miss out on.

End your day at the beach. The park has two shallow sandy beaches to choose from, perfect for lounging with a snack in hand.

If you’re attending either area, just note that no lifeguards are on duty.

Day/vehicle passes start at $12.25, a small price to pay for an amazing day at Ivanhoe.
