If You Grew Up in the ‘80s, This Iconic Brand’s Closure Might Hurt

12 July 20253 Mins Read

Make the most of this back-to-school season, because after this fall it will never be the same.

When you close your eyes and picture your childhood classrooms, chances are you are imagining bright and colorful posters, scratch-and-sniff stickers, playful bulletin board borders and even some cheerful, education games.

Feeling a sense of nostalgia? You can likely attribute that to Trend Enterprises, the brand behind the charming decor that provided the joyful backdrop to classrooms across the country since the 1970s.

Now, after 55 years of delivering happiness, color, and encouragement to students, Trend Enterprises is shutting its doors forever.

The company made the heartbreaking announcement on Instagram just as back-to-school season is getting underway With Trend Enterprise’s closure on the horizon, this school year marks the end of an era.

“After more than 55 incredible years in business, TREND enterprises, Inc. has made the difficult decision to close by the end of 2025, ” said the caption. “This decision was not made lightly. Like many companies, we’ve been impacted by shifting economic conditions—from rising costs in materials, manufacturing, and shipping to the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Combined with changing consumer habits and a continued decline in demand for traditional classroom décor, these challenges have made it increasingly difficult to serve the market as we always have.”

Despite the company’s impending closure, business is intended to continue as usual until the current inventory sells out. Trend Enterprises plans to continue fulfilling orders through the middle of October, offering teachers and parents alike one last chance to stock up before heading back to school.

As emotional as the end of this chapter may be, especially for those whose childhoods were shaped by the brand’s imaginative and delightful creations, there’s still hope for the future of Trend Enterprises’s original ideas. Trend Enterprises is in the early stages of selling its intellectual property, so those beloved designs may be available for educators and parents to purchase once again soon.

In the meantime, the brand is keeping its head held high. The social media post concludes not with sadness, but with gratitude.

“Most importantly, we want to say thank you! Your loyalty, enthusiasm, and belief in our products have meant the world to us. You’ve helped us bring joy, creativity, and a love of learning into countless classrooms, homes, and hearts. We’re proud of what we’ve built to Make Learning FUN! With sincere gratitude, Your Friends at TREND 💛💜”
