Marvel Rivals’ summer event skins put The Thing in a thong

15 July 20252 Mins Read

Rise up, gooners: Marvel Rivals is getting a beach-themed summer event, and everyone is looking hot.

You’ve got expected additions, like a breezy Luna Snow skin that turns the popstar’s soundscape into roving waves. Based on the footage, Snow is clearly the biggest draw here — her skin includes a bespoke soundtrack of lo-fi tunes and small flourishes like fish that swim all around her.

Surprisingly, most of the new cosmetics are for male characters like Thor and Loki, both of whom take the opportunity to show off their shredded physiques. Of the two, Loki sports a more demure beach cover-up compared to Thor’s sultry, shirtless appearance. As if speaking to a potentially salivating audience, Thor can be seen bonking Loki into a stupor. Good news, too: Thor’s skin will be free.

As if that weren’t enough, NetEase has also gifted the world with a version of The Thing in a thong. Rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it? As you would expect, fans are going absolutely nuts at Thing-in-a-thong.

For more dedicated Marvel Rivals fans, the event may not be much of a surprise following the yearly Marvel Swimsuit special one-shot released earlier this month, where classic superheroes are lavished with beachwear. Unfortunately, we’re not getting the excellent Punisher swimsuit concept teased in the special. Perhaps the world wasn’t ready to see Wolverine in a Borat-style over-the-shoulder banana-hammock, either.

NetEase knows exactly what they’re doing, though. What possible explanation could there be for including sprays like ‘HERE’S THE THING’ or an emote with The Thing crouched over, reading a book?

The skins are all a part of a larger summer event where players can grind cosmetics, but if you want The Thing in a thong, you’re going to have to shell out some cash for the privilege. Curiously, the cover for the physical swimsuit special comic book says you can get a code for The Thing’s cosmetic by buying the comic, but no further details on this promotion were available.
