A complete guide to Vancouver’s West End neighbourhood

16 July 20254 Mins Read

Tucked away in a sweet spot between downtown Vancouver and Stanley Park, West End is where city living meets chilled-out coastal charm.

The neighbourhood, which is set on Vancouver’s western peninsula, is home to the iconic Davie Village, a vibrant LGBTQ2S+ hub, as well as the stunning English Bay and Sunset Beach.

From local businesses and cultural landmarks to popular hangouts, we’ve rounded up the best things to see and do there.

Shopping

While the West End isn’t a shopping hotspot, it’s full of small, independent gems worth checking out.

If you’re after a new ‘fit, The Only on Davie is your go-to for vintage clothing, accessories, and unique finds you won’t see on everyone else. On a budget? Hit up Quick Nickel Clothing, a funky spot offering discounted apparel and accessories.

Meanwhile, Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium carries a collection of LGBTQ2S+ literature, and it’s a must-visit when in the area. The space is stocked with books, art, magazines, and gifts, making it the perfect place for an afternoon browse.

Other recommendations:

Coffee

The West End is packed with charming cafés where you can linger over a latte and people-watch or pick up some much-needed fuel for a beach stroll.

Check out Davie Village Bakery for pastries, gelato, and a killer cappuccino. Head to Matchstick and enjoy one of their expertly crafted espresso drinks in a bright, minimalist space.

Or head to the always-cozy Caffe Mira for comfy seating, friendly staff, top-class matcha lattes, and great sandwiches.

Other recommendations:

Restaurants

From quick bites to cozy dinners, the West End delivers serious flavour for all tastes!

Noah’s Cafe is a hidden gem with a menu full of creative Japanese-tapas fusion food. Expect delicious small plates like Wagyu Beef Tartare, Uni Creme Pasta, and Crunchy Chimichurri Hamachi. Pro tip: the best way to try it all is with their Omakase Course Menu.

Craving a classic burger? Vonns Smash Burgers smashes it out of the park every time with their juicy patties — stacked high with all the fixings, of course.

If you want to be right by the water, hit up CRAFT Beer Market, which has a massive selection of local and international brews, casual bites, weekend brunch, and epic seaside views.

Other recommendations:

Bars

West End is home to the city’s best LGBTQ2S+ bars, laid-back pubs, and high-energy dance floors. Cocktails, a drag show, even a good old-fashioned pint — it’s got it all.

For a place that always brings the party, check out The Junction. This part-bar, part-club hosts regular DJs, trivia, drag shows, and various theme nights, so be sure to check what’s on.

Meanwhile, The Fountainhead Pub is a true neighbourhood staple with a welcoming atmosphere and one of the best patios on Davie St., while Numbers Cabaret is a multi-level dance club that’s been around since the ’80s.

Other recommendations:

Activities

Sure, West End is pretty chill, but it’s far from boring! With everything from iconic beaches to historic landmarks, the neighbourhood is packed with things to see and do.

English Bay Beach and Sunset Beach are two of Vancouver’s most-loved beaches, and both are within walking distance from anywhere in the West End. Sprawl on the sand with an iced coffee and a good book, or take a walk along the shore. (P.S. Be sure to catch the sunset here!)

The crown jewel of the West End might be the Stanley Park Seawall. Walk, bike, or even rollerblade the waterside path that wraps around Stanley Park, offering jaw-dropping views of the city, ocean, and North Shore mountains.

Another must? The A-maze-ing Laughter sculpture. Strike a pose with one of the 14 larger-than-life bronze figures and snap that perfect Instagram picture.

Other recommendations:

Happy exploring.
