Episode 295: The Jesus Glow. Plus, ‘Smurfs’, Best TV Shows to Binge Watch

17 July 20252 Mins Read

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 295

We know that Christianity is true. We know that it’s beautiful. But is it true that Christianity can make you beautiful?

I’m a strong counterargument to that assertion—at least first thing in the morning. But some folks on TikTok suggest that embracing your faith can work like a really good moisturizing cream. It’ll give you, they say, a certain “Jesus Glow.”

OK, so I think most of us can see the inherent problems in this. But the whole Jesus Glow phenomenon on TikTok gives us a chance to talk about how the impact that today’s social media influencers have on faith—in both good ways and bad. Adam Holz hosts this entertaining conversation with Jonathan McKee and Emily Tsiao.

Then we’ll move from a healthy glow to a blue hue. That’s right: Smurfs—a new movie with some surprising content concerns—is smurfing into theaters this weekend. In honor of its return, we talk about the Smurfs and opine what the appeal is to these curious, cobalt-colored creatures.

By the way, thank you for the kind words that so many of you have written regarding The Plugged In Show. As the show winds down, it’s incredibly gratifying to hear from you—and that you’ve enjoyed listening to it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.

And let’s keep the conversation going. Have you heard about the Jesus Glow? What do you think about the Smurfs? Tell us about your favorite memories of The Plugged In Show—or share your least-favorite dad jokes we shared. And let us know what you’d like to see as we push more of our time to YouTube. We’d love to hear from you.

We’ve got plenty of ways for you to join in (or continue) the conversation. Connect with us on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. Send us an email at [email protected]. Leave us a voice message on our very own Plugged In Show homepage. Or drop us a few words in the comments section below.

And then join us next week when we talk about the Fantastic Four franchise and ask whether AI is just getting to be a little too … nice. It’ll be a fun time. Promise.
