Towering 70-metre cliffs and jaw-dropping views await on this Ontario trail

20 July 20252 Mins Read

Summertime is adventure time! The weather is just about perfect, and we’re ready to hit the road on a mission to explore everything Ontario has to offer. That being said, if you’re looking for new horizons, head to this nature reserve located on an island in Ontario. There’s a trail with a stunning lookout and breathtaking views. Here’s what to know about Cup and Saucer Nature Reserve.

Cup and Saucer

A five-hour drive north of Toronto, Cup and Saucer Nature Reserve is located on Manitoulin Island. The reserve spans across 345 acres and features an exciting hiking trail and adventure loop, according to the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy.

“The cliffs are called ‘Cup and Saucer’ because the higher Cup is perched on the lower Saucer formation,” says the EBC. “Both are Silurian deposits, about 400 million years old.”

To experience the bluffs in all their glory, you must embark on an 8 km-long trail.

According to Explore Manitoulin, the well-known Cup and Saucer trail leads to “dramatic 70 metre cliffs and breathtaking views.” It is one of the most popular trails in Ontario.

If you do decide to venture along this hiking trail, it is important to note that it begins on EBC’s property and also continues onto privately owned land. “Please respect private land and the landowners who generously allow us to enjoy the trail throughout the year,” shared EBC.

Considering the weather has been nothing but kind to us for the past few days, take advantage of the warmth and hit the outdoors.
