There’s an Ontario park with 2,000 km of canoe trails and secluded beaches

21 July 20252 Mins Read

For those who love an outdoor adventure, this is the park for you. Woodland Caribou Provincial Park has it all: 2,000 km of maintained canoe routes, undisturbed boreal forest, and secluded beaches.

To get here, you’ll need to head way north to Red Lake, Ont., but who doesn’t love a little summer road trip?

This park is best suited for someone who wants to spend time on the water, as the canoe routes are the biggest draw.

According to Ontario Parks, “Canoe routes span over a myriad of connected waterways, providing the opportunity to immerse yourself in the most natural setting and to challenge your skills and senses.”

If you need help planning a canoe trip, the park is available to assist guests in planning their routes based on their skill levels and how long they’d like to be on the water.

Head back to land and explore the boreal forest throughout the park grounds.

The forest is described as undisturbed, making for a quiet place to stroll and discover wildlife. The forest is home to a wide variety of birds, including Great Gray Owls, birds of prey such as bald eagles and various species of hawks, waterfowl, and numerous nesting songbirds.

Lounge along the shores at Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, too.

Woodland Caribou is home to a handful of secluded beaches and plenty of “deep drop-offs from bedrock shorelines that offer great swimming opportunities.”

There isn’t much you can’t do at this slice of northern Ontario heaven.

Park day passes/vehicle passes start at $12.25. Enjoy Woodland Caribou Provincial Park for all its beauty, Ontario!

Where: 227 Howey St., Red Lake, Ont.
