'Spartacus' Spinoff 'House of Ashur' Introduces Female Gladiator for New Sequel Series

26 July 20253 Mins Read

When it comes to looking for new TV properties, STARZ, evidently, is doing as the Romans did. In the 2010s, Spartacus became one of the most popular franchises for the cable network, with Steven DeKnight partnering with famed director Sam Raimi to create their take on the historical figure who led a slave uprising. Now, over a decade later, it’s time to get your toga back on and prepare to enter the arena. STARZ will be releasing Spartacus: House of Ashur, a sequel series that shows an alternate version of Nick E. Tarabay’s former gladiator.

Here’s everything to know about Spartacus: House of Ashur.

When is the release date of Spartacus: House of Ashur?

Spartacus: House of Ashur has been announced to kick off in Winter 2025. A specific premiere date has yet to be confirmed.

How many episodes are there of Spartacus: House of Ashur?

Spartacus: House of Ashur will run 10 episodes. That mimics the episode count of the last two seasons of the Spartacus series proper.

Who is in the cast of Spartacus: House of Ashur?

Nick E. Tarabay will return to the role he played on Spartacus as the titular slave for the new sequel series. Here’s the currently announced cast for Spartacus: House of Ashur.

What is the plot of Spartacus: House of Ashur?

According to a press release from STARZ, “Spartacus: House of Ashur is a thrilling, erotic, history-bending, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit. What if he lived, and the Romans rewarded his treachery with the gladiator school where he once bled? Welcome to the House of Ashur. No longer a slave, Ashur has clawed his way to power, owning the same ludus that once owned him.

“But ruling a band of merciless gladiators is child’s play compared to surviving the savage world of Roman politics — a cutthroat game in which betrayal isn’t a sin, it’s currency. He flips tradition on its head by unleashing Achillia, a fierce and powerful gladiatrix eager to prove herself worthy in a man’s world. Together, they ignite a new kind of spectacle that shocks, disrupts, and offends the elite with every drop of blood.”

How to watch Spartacus: House of Ashur

Episodes of Spartacus: House of Ashur can be watched on STARZ, and streamed on the STARZ app.

Did Ashur die in Spartacus?

Technically, yes! After a season of debauchery and villainy, Ashur was decapitated in a fight on Mount Vesuvius in the finale of Season 2, Spartacus: Vengeance.House of Ashur, however, exists in a universe where Ashur did not perish, and instead, he was given control of his former gladiator school.

Will Liam McIntyre appear in Spartacus: House of Ashur?

In 2012, Liam McIntyre took on the unenviable job of having to replace Andy Whitfield as the titular character in Spartacus after Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. McIntyre would fill his sandals as Spartacus for the show’s latter two seasons. While it’s unknown at this moment if he’ll make a cameo in House of Ashur, considering McIntyre hosted the San Diego Comic-Con panel about the show, we have to imagine he’ll be showing his face at some point.

Is there a trailer for Spartacus: House of Ashur?

The first teaser trailer for Spartacus: House of Ashur was released at San Diego Comic-Con on July 26, 2025.
