A new elevated boardwalk experience just opened in B.C.’s coastal rainforest

1 August 20253 Mins Read

Squamish is a top-notch day trip destination for Vancouverites for many reasons, and now we have another one to add to the growing list. A new boardwalk experience is officially open in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, inviting visitors to wander through the heart of the coastal rainforest.

The 1.5-km elevated boardwalk takes visitors through canyon cliffs, along the Mamquam River, and towards the base of Mamquam Falls.

Constructed by Ridge North America, the boardwalk also offers visitors the chance to experience towering coastal trees, fascinating geology, and interpretive features that showcase the ecological and cultural significance of the area.

“I wanted to inspire people and also create awareness of how to do it safely and with respect for the incredible lands and waters we have here,” says the founder and designer of Squamish Canyon. “Basically, I wanted to build the coolest tree fort ever in the canyons and forest behind my house.”

The experience ends at the Forest Lounge, a gathering space surrounded by towering trees. It features a café, local artisan retail, a forest-themed play area for children, and plenty of tranquil spots to catch your breath and reflect.

CEO of Ridge North America, Paul Deutsch, called the project “a bold addition to the Sea-to-Sky visitor experience.”

“Squamish Canyon reflects the kind of projects we’re proud to bring to life — those that merge meaningful design with sustainability and lasting community value,” shares Deutsch. “It’s a world-class experience rooted in the local landscape.”

Tickets & operating info

Day passes are $39.60 for adults, $23.40 for children, and $126 for a family ticket (two adults, two children). Annual passes are not yet available, but stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Currently, the boardwalk is not wheelchair- or stroller-friendly due to its natural terrain. However, Squamish Canyon notes that the team is actively exploring future solutions to make the experience more accessible.

This August, Squamish Canyon is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Starting in September, the experience will stay open until 4 p.m., and until 3 p.m. in October.

Note that pets are not permitted on the boardwalk, except for certified service and guide dogs.

Free parking is available on-site.

Happy exploring!
