This viral chocolate sold in Quebec is being recalled over salmonella contamination

5 August 20252 Mins Read

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for a chocolate bar sold in Quebec due to potential salmonella contamination.

The product in question is Dubai brand milk chocolate with kunafa and pistachio, sold in 145 g packages. It was distributed primarily through online sales in Quebec, and the recall was issued on August 4. Dubai chocolate, a luxury sweet originating from the UAE, has recently gone viral online for its rich fillings and over-the-top packaging, often gifted as a premium treat.

So far, there have been no reported illnesses linked to the product, but lab testing triggered the recall out of caution. The company responsible, Distribution Bonbons JJ Candy, is voluntarily pulling the item from the market.

This recall was issued on August 4, 2025.canada.ca

Here’s what to look for:

  •  Product name: Milk chocolate kunafa & pistachio
  •

  •  Brand: Dubai
  •

  •  Size: 145 g
  •

  •  UPC: 6 11834 51237 1
  •

  •  Lot code: 225.174
  •

  •  Distributor: Distribution Bonbons JJ Candy
  •

The CFIA is advising anyone who has the chocolate to either throw it out or return it to the place of purchase.

Even if a product doesn’t look or smell spoiled, food contaminated with salmonella can still make you sick. Symptoms of salmonellosis may include fever, headache, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. People who are immunocompromised, elderly, pregnant, or young children are especially at risk.

If you’ve eaten this chocolate and start to feel unwell, it’s best to contact a healthcare provider.

The CFIA is continuing its food safety investigation and says additional recalls may follow if other products are found to be affected.
