We’re in for even more rain on Friday before the sun pokes its head from behind the clouds and sunny skies prevail for the rest of the weekend. From fringe theatre festivals to street and night markets, here are 10 things to do this Aug. 8 to 10 weekend in Calgary.

Celebrate the Inglewood community spirit at this modern market. A host of local vendors will sell diverse goods from handmade crafts to vintage clothing, antiques, collectibles, and artisan eats.

When: Friday, Aug. 8
Where: 10th Avenue to 10th Street SE
Cost: Free

This multicultural and multi-faith event will commemorate those who lost their lives in the 1948 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by honouring Japan’s floating lantern tradition. Get inspired by martial arts performance, Yosakoi dance, and youth choirs honouring the month of peace.

When: Saturday, Aug. 9

Get grooving at Calgary’s premier African cultural festival! This free-admission event will celebrate African heritage through art, food, fashion, and live music performances.

Philadelphia-formed indie-folk quintet Mt. Joy will perform at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Aug. 9. Their heartfelt songs blend stripped-down instrumentals with stompy folk-rock energy and bold experimentation.

A dance party for the romantics that’s sure to be sweet like cinnamon. Dance away that summertime sadness with a night dedicated to everyone’s favourite sad girl.

It’s here! Crank the tunes and bounce around on The World’s Biggest Bouncy Castle with inflatable attractions.

The 19th edition of the annual festival will bring the wacky, wild, and weird to YYC. Featuring digital and in-person theatre, comedy, and art installations, Fringe Fest shows will run all week long at locations throughout Calgary.

Cost: $20+

This annual boat race and festival, celebrating the ancient Chinese tradition of dragon boat racing, is back for its 33rd year. Cheer on over 1,850 paddlers racing to win at North Glenmore Park and enjoy food trucks, a marketplace and more fun.

When: Friday, Aug. 8 to Sunday, Aug. 10

Cost: Free

This annual celebration of Korean heritage and community spirit brings together people from all backgrounds to experience Korean cultural traditions.

When: Saturday, Aug. 9 to Sunday, Aug. 10
Where: Lot 6 — 311 8th St. SW

This free, family-friendly event in Marda Loop is also the longest-running street festival in Calgary. Experience local shopping, arts and culture programming, and a pedestrian-friendly celebration down 33rd Avenue SW.

When: Sunday, Aug. 10
Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 33rd Avenue SW between 18th and 22nd streets
Cost: Free
