France Leads in Luxury Hotel Bookings, Surpassing Italy in July

Global Travel Collection’s data indicates a 64% year-over-year increase in luxury hotel bookings in France for July, with Paris, Nice, and Marseille as the top destinations.

Global Travel Collection (GTC) has reported a significant rise in luxury hotel bookings in France for July, marking a 64% increase compared to the previous year—this development positions France ahead of Italy, which had previously dominated the luxury travel market in Europe.

The data, compiled from bookings made by GTC advisors in the United States and the United Kingdom, highlights Paris, Nice, and Marseille as the leading destinations. Paris recorded 2,710 nights booked, while Nice and Marseille followed with 1,313 and 286 nights, respectively. Notable hotels in these cities include Le Bristol Paris and The Maybourne Riviera.

In contrast, Italy saw 777 nights booked in Rome, 725 in Milan, and 679 in Naples. Popular choices among travelers in Italy include Hotel Eden in Rome, Passalacqua on Lake Como, and Romazzino, a Belmond Hotel, in Sardinia.

The United Kingdom also experienced growth, with a 13% increase in bookings over July 2024. London was a key destination, with hotels such as Ham Yard Hotel, Claridge’s, and Flemings Mayfair being frequently booked.

Spain ranked among the top five destinations, with Barcelona being particularly popular. Hotels like the Four Seasons Hotel Madrid, Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay, and Six Senses Ibiza were among the top choices for travelers.

In 2024, GTC advisors facilitated $2.3 billion in luxury travel sales, arranging nearly 900 ultra-luxury trips, each valued at over $100,000. The average daily hotel rate secured by GTC was $1,400.

This shift in booking trends suggests a more balanced distribution of luxury travel demand across Europe, with France reclaiming a leading position for the first time since 2019.
