The 12 Best Breads To Buy at Aldi, According to a Superfan

12 August 20257 Mins Read

When it comes to saving a few extra dollars on your grocery bill, Aldi is at the top of many shoppers’ go-to lists. However, there are still many folks out there who may know about Aldi’s great prices, but not the wide selection the discount grocery store carries. Over my many years as an Aldi shopper, I’ve consistently been impressed by their in-house brands, which I often find to be as good (or sometimes better) than their big-brand counterparts.

A perfect example of this is Aldi’sbread section, which is often one of the first aisles as you enter the store. If you stroll up and down the row, you’ll see tons of carby options, including everything from everyday staples to specialty breads for morning, noon and night.

Over the years, I’ve watched the brand’s bread selection grow and change in the best ways. As a mom of two, I’ve made tons of lunchbox sandwiches with their options and also know I can grab a baguette for a cheese plate, naan for Indian dinner night or a loaf of sourdough for my avocado toast.

If you aren’t a weekly Aldi shopper like me, or maybe you are but have been skipping the bread aisle, I took a special trip to my local store, making special note of all of my favorites. The list below are what I think are the 12 best breads at Aldi. There’s a little something for everyone on the list, so take a read before your next Aldi run so you know which loaves to add to your must-buy list.

What Kinds of Bread Can You Buy at Aldi?

No matter if you are looking for a pantry staple white bread for those lunch box sandwiches, or something more specific for a special dinner (I’m looking at you, French baguette), Aldi is your one-stop shop for all your bread needs.

Even more exciting, in recent years Aldi has stepped up their game when it comes to international flavors and those looking for specific options, such as keto, whole grain and organic bread. If you have a loaf of bread on your shopping list, you’ll most likely find it waiting for you at Aldi.

What Bread Brands Can You Buy at Aldi?

One of the main ways Aldi keeps prices low is by selling in-house brands instead of name brands that you might see at other grocery stores. You might occasionally see a specialty German or Italian brand at Aldi, but for the most part you’ll see three in-house bread brands: L’Oven Fresh, Specially Selected and Simply Nature, the organic Aldi in-store brand.

Does Aldi Bake Bread Fresh In-Store?

While Aldi doesn’t have an in-store bakery, their breads are still some of the freshest you can buy. On many of the packages, you’ll find a white sticker with a “sell by” date to help determine their peak freshness. That sticker is also what alerts employees to items that have passed their “sell by” date, which means they’ll be discounted. Scoop up some deals and freeze the bread for later!

2. Best Sourdough Bread at Aldi: Specially Selected Sourdough Round

Made in small batches using only three main ingredients—flour, water and salt—this sourdough is so close to homemade, nobody will ever know. It’s chewy and soft at the same time, plus it has that recognizable tanginess we want in a sourdough. It’s great for a hearty sandwich or fancy toast, and makes the perfect dipper for your favorite soup.

3. Best International Bread at Aldi: Specially Selected Garlic Naan Flatbread

If you love making Indian recipes at home, a great naan to soak up all that sauce is a must-have. Choose from original or this delicious garlicky option. Hand-stretched and tandoor baked with those blistered bubbles on top, this flatbread is almost as good as what you can get at your favorite takeout spot. Both flavors are also available in mini versions, which are perfect for appetizer platters or snacking.

4. Best Brunch Bread at Aldi: Bake Shop Mini Croissants

A dozen croissants for under three dollars? Yes, please! You could also go for the original size for the same price, but good things come in small packages! Warm these buttery, flaky pastries in the oven for a few minutes before serving for brunch. Serve them with cinnamon honey butter or use them as the base for a fun, cute and tasty breakfast sandwich.

5. Best Garlic Bread at Aldi: L’Oven Fresh Garlic Knots

These savory garlic knots bake right in the bag (no dishes to wash!), come out golden brown and are perfect with any pasta supper. To take them up a notch (or three!), sprinkle them with grated Parmesan cheese when they’re fresh from the oven.

6. Best Buns To Buy at Aldi: Specially Selected Sesame Seed Brioche Buns

These soft, rich and slightly sweet brioche hamburger buns are topped with sesame seeds for a little extra texture and flair. They’re soft and tender but can also stand up to a big juicy burger topped with your favorite fixings without falling apart mid-bite!

7. Best Wheat Bread To Buy at Aldi: L’Oven Fresh 100% Whole Wheat Bread

Sometimes, when you read the fine print on a so-called whole-grain bread, other ingredients make you cringe. But with Aldi’s whole wheat, you get what you pay for. No high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavor,s plus twenty-two grams of whole grains per serving, makes this a bread you can feel good about.

8. Best Bagels To Buy at Aldi: L’Oven Fresh Everything Bagels

Grab a block of cream cheese because these flavor-packed bagels deserve a good schmear! You get all the garlic and onion seasoning you crave at half the price of national brands, plus nine grams of protein per bagel. When you’re not pairing these with cream cheese, try them with tuna or chicken salad for an upgraded lunch.

9. Best Dinner Rolls To Buy at Aldi: L’Oven Fresh Hawaiian Rolls

With a super soft texture and extra sweet flavor, Hawaiian rolls have been a crowd favorite for years. When Aldi started carrying their version for about half the price of the name brand, it was a great day! With fall coming, these make a great addition to soup night and are perfect for making game-daysliders.

10. Best Organic Bread To Buy at Aldi: Simply Nature Seedtastic Bread

If a bread is going to be named “seedtastic,” you better be able to see them, and Aldi delivers! Thin-sliced, jam-packed with seeds, whole grain, organic…the list goes on and on. Toasted with some creamy peanut butter, for even more protein, is our favorite way to enjoy this one. (Pro tip: If you like Dave’s Killer Bread, you definitely need to try this one.)

11. Best Take & Bake Bread To Buy at Aldi: Specially Selected French Baguette

Crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside, this baguette tastes like one you would buy at a small French bakery. Ready to bake and serve, it becomes our favorite crostini for every charcuterie board, topped with a little fig jam and prosciutto or olive tapenade (all from Aldi, of course.)

12. Best Sandwich Bread To Buy at Aldi: L’Oven Fresh Artisanal Style Bread

When it comes to store-bought bread, great flavor is important, but texture can make or break it. This super soft artisanal-style loaf, which is available in white and whole wheat, will cause daily sandwich cravings. After sinking your teeth into this, regular white bread just won’t do.
