Nicolas Cage in Talks to Star in Fan-Favorite HBO Series

22 August 20252 Mins Read

HBO’s award-winning crime series, True Detective, has rarely held back when it’s come to its all-star cast of prominent Hollywood actors.

With that being said, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the show’s upcoming fifth season is looking to one of the greatest character actors of all time in the form of Nicolas Cage.

As reported by Deadline, the Academy Award-winning actor is currently in talks to star in the long-awaited fifth season ofthe Emmy-winninganthology series.

According to the publication, Season 5 of True Detective will be set in the Jamaica Bay section of New York City. Season 4 showrunner, Issa Lopez, will return for the fifth season, with Cage currently being eyed for the role of New York police detective, Henry Logan.

Should Cage land the role, he’ll join an extensive cast list that includes a variety of colorful Hollywood performers.

In Season 1 of True Detective, Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey starred as a pair of Louisiana homicide detectives investigating a series of brutal murders with ties to the occult.

Season 2 of the show followed a trio of California police officers (Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams) who look into the death of a corrupt businessman alongside a shady career criminal (Vince Vaughn).

Season 3 focused on Mahershala Ali’s Arkansas police detective investigating a case involving missing children over the course of three decades in the Ozarks.

Meanwhile, Season 4 (subtitled True Detective: Night Country) followed Jodie Foster and Kali Reis’ detectives looking into the disappearance of eight men at a secluded research station in Alaska.

Details about the fifth season of the show have been relatively scarce, but as per Deadline, HBO is currently aiming to begin filming the series in 2026, with a projected release date of 2027.
