From a beachside night market to The Lion King, to Canada’s largest Brazilian cultural festival, here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this week (Aug. 25-29).
It’s the 10th anniversary of Canada’s largest outdoor movie series, AKA Evo Summer Cinema. This week, they’re screening The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring with free, first-come, first-served seating available at Second Beach.

Broadway Across Canada has officially brought The Lion King production to Vancouver, and you don’t want to miss out on the incredible artistry, from the costumes to the unforgettable music. The Tony Award-winning musical features some of Broadway’s most recognizable songs and choreography, and now is your chance to see it all come to life onstage in Vancouver.

The Mount Pleasant BIA has been the busiest bee this summer, organizing tons of free and accessible community-wide events ranging from street festivals to pop-up wine bars. This week, there are a couple of free concerts to check out at two Main Street plazas: Luc Lemans at Main and 14th on Wednesday, Aug. 27, and Thalia Malcolm at 21st and Main on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025.
Both concerts will commence at 5 p.m. at their respective plazas.

Movies are screened at the Birds in Motion Viewing Area at sunset, with The Rusty Rail open to diners until 9 p.m.

The end of the week marks the start of Canada’s largest Brazilian cultural celebration! With live music on both days, authentic street food, and even a mini Carnaval celebration, this festival is jam-packed with the flavours, sounds, and great vibes of Vancouver’s Brazilian community, and all are invited to experience it.
