Seven Food Vendors For New York’s Brand-New Market Union Square, Revealed, Canada Reviews

25 August 20254 Mins Read

New York was blessed with its first Market location back in 2019, but this coming September a second location will be opening in Union Square, with space to seat 240 hungry diners.

We can expect a performance space, an outdoor terrace and a full-service bar, but most exciting, seven of the city’s most exciting kitchens (from esteemed chefs to promising newcomers) will be taking residence, and now officially know which ones. Tuck in.

Patty Palace

Craving a lip-smacking, Jamaican-style patty? Well, we’ve got good news, as this slap-up restaurant run by award-winning Chef Kwame Onwuachi, whose menu features curried chicken, jerk mushroom, ginger cabbage sale and a green seasoning aioli, is one edition to Market New York.

Kebabwala

If an Indian kebab is more what you’re craving, be sure to head to Kebabwala for a slice of authentic street food flavour. This place is run by Unapologetic Foods who are behind other popular NYC spots Dhamaka, Ada, and Semma, the last of which is the city’s only Michelin-starred Indian restaurant.

Taqueria El Chato

This place was described as having a ‘concise menu of deftly executed tacos, vampiras, and quesadillas’ by the Michelin Guide New York 2025, and do you really need any more info than that? Chef Gerardo Alcaraz and Christ Reyes opened their Greenpoint location of this taqueria in 2024, and since their second location cropped up in the West Village, it’s gained something of a cult following.

Lory Jayne Burger

Named after Chef Sam Braverman’s mum who taught him how to cook, this is the spot to head for ultimate comfort food. The signature LJ Burger will be on the menu, as will the Buffalo 2.0 chicken sandwich, crispy sichuan shrooms and a load of original sauces.

Fornino

Would this really be New York without pizza? Arguably not, and that’s why Fornino is such an important addition. Chef Michael Ayoub is a pioneer of the city’s pizza culture, and since first opening a restaurant in Williamsburg, quality ingredients, mouthwatering flavour combinations and perfectly scorched crusts have become a mainstay of this restaurant’s menu – but they also make some knockout salads.

Kam Rai Thai

For beautiful dishes crafted and inspired by food from all over Thailand, head to Kam Rai Thai. The menu includes zesty and fiery dishes like smoky grilled pork buns, Khao Soi with confit chicken in creamy coconut curry, crispy Hat Yai fried chicken and wok-charred pad see ew, all rustled up by Washington-born, Bangkok-raised Chef Dhanapol Marprasert.

Paninoteca

At Anthony Valois’s Union Square outpost, expect classic sandwich fillings such as Proscuitto Union Square with prosciutto di parma and mozzarella and sundried peppers, or more innovative options such as the Della-Tella: truffle-studded mortadella, creamy stracciatella and pistachio pesto.

‘ Market New York, Union Square will be a place where the community can come together – whether that’s people living around here, students from nearby universities, workers in this neighbourhood or visitors wanting to experience local food and culture which we make accessible,’ said VP of US Markets Virginia Rector-Birbal, ‘Our guests get to discover the city’s flavors, creativity and fresh ideas, under one roof in a uniquely designed space. It will be a place for everyone, every and all day – for all ages, budgets, tastes.’

Exciting times, right? Watch this space as we unveil more info about the opening of this shiny new Market.

Oh, and these are ’s absolute favourite restaurants in New York.
