There’s a scenic bay and ‘secret cove’ in B.C. with a crescent-shaped beach

28 August 20252 Mins Read

Call us biased, but B.C. is undoubtedly home to some of the most beautiful coastlines and beaches in Canada, and few places prove that more than Halfmoon Bay (xwilkway). Situated on the Sunshine Coast, just north of Sechelt, the small community is full of hiking, fishing, kayaking, and swimming opportunities. What better place to spend the tail end of summer?

Visitors can spend some quality time out on the water at Thormanby Island or Smuggler Cove Marine Park, or use Buccaneer Marina or the public dock next to Secret Cove Marina to launch their paddle or boating adventures.

For those looking to do a bit of swimming, there’s ample opportunity at Trout Lake, which has less of a beachy vibe and more of a “jump in and swim” experience.

In terms of hiking, there are “easy-to-access” waterfront trails at Smuggler Cove’s boardwalk, Woods Wilderness Park, and Homesite Creek, which feature waterfalls in the lower section of the trails.

Halfmoon Bay and Secret Cove are both located on the traditional territory of the shíshálh Nation, accessible by boat or car via Highway 101.

Looking for another provincial park to check out during your visit? Sargeant Bay Provincial Park has a large crescent-shaped beach, a wetland area, and a forest to explore.

Here, a short forested trail leads visitors to the scenic Triangle Lake, which is the perfect spot to spend the weekend.

How to get there: Take a ferry from Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver, to Langdale and drive 40 minutes (40.4 km) to Halfmoon Bay via Sunshine Coast Highway/BC-101 N.
