Welcome to the first weekend of September, everyone. Long summer nights might be dwindling, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of festivals, arts events, and activities worth leaving your couch for. Here are 10 fun things to do in Vancouver this weekend (Sept. 5-7).

Before VIFF rolls around, film lovers can check out the Vancouver Taiwanese Film Fest this Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, a celebration of Taiwanese cinema, art, and talent. On Friday and Saturday, visitors can check out a handful of screenings, an opening gala with Taiwanese street food (by CHJ Bistro) and Bubble tea (by Chun Fun How), and a short film panel with four directors, actors, and industry professionals.

When: Friday, Sept. 5 and Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025

Cost: $15 for GA, per film screening

Third spaces, where residents of a community can gather and connect, are more important than ever, and it’s always nice when these spaces offer an environment free from vehicles and traffic. So lace up your walking shoes and get ready to explore all that The Drive has to offer, including live music, local eats, art, and community vibes.

When: Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025
Time: Noon to 7 p.m.
Where: Commercial Drive, from Grandview to East 1st Avenue
Cost: Free admission

This independent local arts festival has been a staple in the city since 1985, fostering a community of emerging performing artists that tours across North America. This year’s festival features 87 live theatre, comedy, drag, and music performances.

Looking for a spot to unwind at or connect with a friend between shows? Head to the Fringe Bar, where you’ll find refreshments and nightly food trucks on a covered patio, as well as some of your fave local performers.

Comedian Hannah Berner is bringing her None of My Business Tour to the Vogue Theatre this Friday as part of the Vancouver Is Funny Comedy Series.

When: Friday, Sept. 5, 2025
Time: Doors at 6 p.m., show at 7 p.m.
Where: 918 Granville St. 
Cost: $60 to $76.25

Greta Bar is transforming this Friday for a mischievous night of chaos. Yes, we’re talking about the Labubu Rave! Guests can expect the arcade bar to be decked out in Labubus, with the chance for attendees to win their own. There will be special guest DJs to keep you and your tiny pal going all night long.

When: Friday, Sept. 5, 2025
Time: 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Where: 50 West Cordova St.
Cost: Free admission before 9:30 p.m.

Cheer on the Vancouver Canadians as they face off against the Everett AquaSox all week and weekend long, with a special night with fireworks on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. It’s a classic summertime tradition for a reason!

Broadway Across Canada has officially brought The Lion King production to Vancouver, and you don’t want to miss out on the incredible artistry, from the costumes to the unforgettable music. The Tony Award-winning musical features some of Broadway’s most recognizable songs and choreography, and now is your chance to see it all come to life onstage in Vancouver.

When: Until Sept. 14, 2025

Where: 630 Hamilton St. 
Cost: $61+

The Improv Centre on Granville Island is presenting a new experimental show called Spontaneous Combustion, which combines seasoned pros with rising stars for an ideal night of comedy and connection. Get ready to experience a chain of improv scenes where anything can happen.

Tickets are priced at $10, $15, and $20, and you can choose how much you want to pay.

Cost: $10 to $20 per person

It’s not too late to check out the amazing productions at this year’s Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival. You can still catch Much Ado About Nothing, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again], and/or The Dark Lady.

The Richmond Night Market is in its 25th year, complete with hundreds of international street food booths, local retail vendors, and a first-of-its-kind zipline.
