Barn Burner’s 40th anniversary is cranking the volume in Calgary

4 September 20252 Mins Read

Celebrating 40 years of live music is no easy feat, and a beloved local brewery is gearing up to do that very thing.

Big Rock Brewery is turning the volume to max with the return of Barn Burner, an all-day live music event with an all-star Canadian lineup.

There’s going to be plenty of maple leaf representation on stage in the form of Juno award-winning alt-rocker Matt Mays, multi-instrumentalist Daniel Romano’s Outfit and indie wunderkind Kue Varo and the Only Hopes.

It’ll be an all-ages event, with kids 12 and under allowed to attend and rock out for free. You’ll also have a chance to chow down on local BBQ from Big Sky BBQ, along with Big Rock beers and non-alcoholic options.

What to expect

Great beer, live music and good times have always gone hand-in-hand, according to David Kinder, president and CEO of Big Rock Brewery.

“Barn Burner is a chance for us to throw open the doors and welcome Alberta to our backyard,” he says in a press release.

Big Rock has a long legacy in Alberta, and Barn Burner is just one way the brewery is giving back to the community by hosting a lively, one-day-only music festival.

Headlining bands will bring an evocative concoction of psychedelia, punk, alt. country, and classic rock to the stage, with Alberta-born artist Kue Varo & the Only Hopes kicking off the day’s music.

Daniel Romano’s Outfit will feature genre-blurring live performances with a delicate fusion of punk and country.

Matt Mays will wrap up the evening, and there’s bound to be plenty of sing-alongs with his rich catalogue of heart-pounding rock anthems.

You can expect big crowds, foot stomps and big laughs at Barn Burner, one of Alberta’s best-known beer festivals.

You’ll have a chance to sip on local beers and cheers with friends to the tune of local music favourites. It’s going to be a night to remember. Get ready to whoop!

When: Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025
Time: 4 to 9 p.m.
Location: Big Rock Brewery — 5555 76th Ave. SE
Cost: $58
