Now, in an interview on Condé Nast Traveler’s, “Women Who Travel” podcast, the star reflects on the memorable moments filming the series. Even the ones that weren’t the most glamorous.

Tracee Ellis Ross Shares the Moment That Stays with Her From Her Travel Series
In response to the question “is there an experience from when you were filming the show that’s really stayed with you.” What immediately came to the actress’ mind? A moment that any nomad can most likely—and unfortunately—relate to: food poisoning.
“Well, I got food poisoning,” she laughs. “Not what I expected!” she jokes, “I don’t even know where that situation occurred but, by the time I arrived somewhere it wasn’t pretty, at all,” she emphasizes.
However, Ross says it’s all part of the solo travel experience.

“When you’re by yourself these things are uncomfortable,” she describes. “It strengthens you, you gain a new muscle that teaches you that you’re fine. It also teaches you who it is that is safe for you to call and who’s gonna be the person that’s gonna talk you through those moments when you’re on your own.”
And, the star points out that you ask yourself: “did you bring a medical bag that has the right things in it?”. Ross shares that it’s a must-have she always packs to be prepared.
Tracee Ellis Ross Reveals More About Her Hit Show and Insights on Solo Travel
One of the things Tracee wanted viewers to discover, she shares, is what it can feel and look like to travel and what they would personally want to get out of traveling. She also wanted viewers to think about places they would want to travel, and to see moments ranging from laughing to simply enjoying a solid fashion moment.
The celeb also points out she didn’t have stylists or hair or makeup artists. Rather, Tracee was the one who packed what she wore, which viewers saw in those signature moments they love of videos simply filmed by phones.
Overall, she says there’s no doubt solo travel is an act of self-care.
“It’s a very important part of my life,” she explains, “I really do invite people to offer the experience of travel and transporting themselves elsewhere as an opportunity to honor who you are and discover who you might not know you are but could be.”
