It’s been over four years since The White Lotus debuted on the silver screen. Since then, it’s become one of the most talked-about shows of the decade, with audiences loving its whodunnit mysteries, witty social commentary, and, well, pretty much anything that Jennifer Coolidge does.
So far, we’ve watched three casts of uber-rich, quasi-evil holidaymakers head to Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand. And ever since a fourth season was greenlit, fans have been speculating where it might be set. We (wrongly) predicted Sydney, Morocco and Mexico, going off the fact the show’s creator Mike White has previously expressed a desire to film on every continent.
However, he can’t be in that much of a hurry, as it looks like France will be the series’ next location, Deadline reports.
But France is a big country, with a fair few locations frequented by CEOs and aristocrats alike. Here’s what we know so far about where the White Lotus’s next visitors and victims could be heading.
It will likely be set at a Four Seasons resort
The White Lotus has, so far, always been filmed at a Four Seasons resort, other than a few scenes in Thailand (multiple hotels were used for filming of season three). The hotel brand has actually formed a partnership with the dramedy show, prompting fans to whittle down their predictions to France’s three Four Seasons properties. These are:
- The Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat in the French Riviera
- The Megève Ski Resort on the Alps
- Paris’s Hotel George V
The Cap-Ferrat is currently the bookies’ favourite because of its proximity to Monaco, Cannes, and Nice – the playground of the ultra-wealthy and famous. It’s so White Lotus, in fact, that it could be a little bit too obvious for a show that loves to keep us on our toes.
Mike White wants to move away from the beach
In an interview following the release of season three, Mike White told Deadline that ‘for the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular’. This suggests that the Riviera is out, however it’s always possible that he could have changed his mind.
Plus, cast members from previous series have warned that White hates the cold and refuses to film there, rendering a ski resort also unlikely. That doesn’t mean it’s out of the question, but if White were to veto the snowy mountain peaks, that would just leave Paris – the city of love.
Setting is crucial in the White Lotus
Wherever the team chooses, the show’s location will play a crucial role in its storyline and themes.
Season one’s focus on class and money was explored through the uncomfortable dynamics between its residents and local Hawaiian staff, while season two, interested in sex and relationships, was set in a fourteenth-century Sicilian convent-turned-tourist resort.
White is very deliberate with setting, so it is interesting to consider what sort of stories he hasn’t yet had a chance to tell. For instance, could a potential Riviera season look into all the pitfalls and perils of fame?
Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2026, so we might not have to wait too long to find out where the next White Lotus hotel will be.
