Chainsaw Man creator’s anime anthology is getting a limited theatrical release

10 September 20252 Mins Read

Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto’s anime anthology series, a collection of Fujimoto’s earlier work from his student years, is set to release this November on Amazon Prime Video. According to Animate Times, the anthology will also get a limited theatrical run, beginning on Oct. 17.

While Prime Video subscribers can just watch when the anthology releases in November, there is plenty of incentive to attend the theatrical premiere. Cinemagoers will get a special booklet containing a conversation between creator Fujimoto and his editor Shihei Hayashi.

The Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 anthology adapts eight short stories from the creator. A Couple Clucking Chickens Were Still Kickin’ in the Schoolyard tells the tale of the bond between two survivors in a post-apocalyptic world. Sasaki Stopped a Bullet is a story that explores the intense emotions of adolescence. Next is Mermaid Rhapsody, a touching romance story between a boy and a mermaid centered around an underwater piano. Love is Blind is a sci-fi romantic comedy about love on a cosmic scale. Shikaku follows an unhinged assassin girl’s twisted love story. Woke-Up-as-a-Girl Syndrome challenges gender norms. Nayuta of the Prophecy chronicles the journey of siblings bound by a harsh destiny, and last but not least is Sisters, which depicts rivalry, conflict, and growth between artistically inclined sisters.

The episodes will be animated by different studios, including ZEXCS, Lapin Track, GRAPH77, 100 Studio, Studio Kafka, and P. A. WORKS.

Fujimoto had this to say about the project: “Having my works from my student years being adapted into anime made me anxious, wondering if this was really okay, and if these works might have relied too heavily on others’ inspiration. However, although I haven’t seen them yet, I believe that through the work of talented directors, they have become proper, well-crafted pieces.”

Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 will launch globally on November 8, 2025.
