Legendary singer Pat Boone is paying tribute to conservative activist Charlie Kirk following the shocking news of Kirk’s death. The 31-year-old political influencer was shot and killed while holding a panel discussion with students at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10.

Boone, 91, shared a moving message on Instagram, where he compared Kirk to apostles Peter, James and John, praising his courage, faith and message.

“Charlie Kirk was, and will always be, an Apostle, just like Peter, James and John in the Bible…a messenger with a vital, soul-shaping and life-saving message,” Boone wrote.

The “Love Letters in the Sand” singer went on to highlight Kirk’s devotion to his faith and his ability to reach people on both sides of the aisle:

“He served the same Lord unabashedly and courageously and effectively, scattering precious seed everywhere he went. His message, one of joyous and lasting victory, his love even for those who disagreed, was evident and contagious.”

Boone closed with a passage from 2 Corinthians 5:8 — “to be absent from the body and present with His Lord” — before adding his own words: “A true modern hero.”

The heartfelt post quickly drew attention online as the Grammy-nominated singer’s tribute underscored Kirk’s influence and the depth of admiration felt by many of his supporters.

“He was a wonderful Christian that loved and lived a godly life. Gone too soon and for no reason,” wrote one of Boone’s followers in the comments.

Another wrote, “I agree, Pat, he was a true servant of God and so very sad….💔.”

“Absolutely horrible. I can’t believe where our country is at right now. The violence and hate. Pray for our nation and for Charlie’s family. 🙏🏻,” wrote a third fan.

Meanwhile, MSNBC has fired political analyst Matthew Dowd after controversial remarks made during live coverage of Kirk’s shooting. Read more about the firing here.

Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve Kirk, whom he married in 2021, and two young children — a daughter born in August 2022, and a son born in May 2024. The couple kept their children’s names and faces off of social media.
