Critical Role teases Campaign 4 characters, including wolfkin detective and plenty of bards

12 September 20252 Mins Read

It’s just under a month until Critical Role’s Campaign 4 kicks off, but the cast is already teasing their characters on social media.

The full cast for Campaign 4 features Critical Role founders Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, Marisha Ray, Travis Willingham, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, and Sam Riegel. They are joined by Luis Carazo, Robbie Daymond, Aabria Iyengar, Whitney Moore, and Alex Ward. Together, they’ll explore Aramán, a world entirely separate from Exandria, the setting of the previous three campaigns, with award-winning storyteller Brennan Lee Mulligan leading them as the campaign’s Dungeon Master.

Not much about the game’s plot or characters has been teased until now, but Critical Role recently shared a puzzle-like post on social media, teasing the class, background, and species of each character through emojis.

Each puzzle potentially teases one character’s class and identity, and plenty of fans have been guessing who will be playing what in the replies below. The potential combinations are fascinating, and even with a whooping 13 players, you can be assured that every character will be truly different and unique. What makes this even more interesting is that we know that Campaign 4 will include both official rules for Dungeons and Dragons (2024) and homebrew content from Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins of Darrington Press, meaning that there may be classes and identities viewers may have never even heard of before.

The first puzzle looks like it could be a wolfkin detective rogue, which already has me excited about the shenanigans that could bring to the party. I’m also very much invested in what looks to be an undead or vampiric fox-like character. Critical Role included an undead in Campaign 3, but I’ll never say no to more gothic-esque characters. There also seem to be at least two bards in the lineup, but to get a full reveal fans will have just a little bit more.

Critical Role Campaign 4 premieres on Oct. 2 with instant access on Beacon.tv and simultaneous streams on Critical Role’s YouTube and Twitch channels. VODs will be available for all viewers the following Monday.
