IHG Hotels & Resorts has opened ANA Holiday Inn Resort Karuizawa and plans to open Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park in October 2025, expanding its presence in Japan.
IHG Hotels & Resorts has expanded its portfolio in Japan with the opening of ANA Holiday Inn Resort Karuizawa. This marks the first major internationally branded hotel in the local prefecture. The resort is situated in Kita-Karuizawa, at the foot of Mount Asama, and offers 102 guestrooms and suites. The property features amenities such as an 18-hole golf course, natural hot springs, an indoor pool, and a fitness gym. It is also connected to the Nature Hills Karuizawa Country Club.
The resort’s dining option, Foggi Forest Dining, offers a buffet-style breakfast and dinner, along with a la carte lunch options. The menu focuses on local and seasonal ingredients. The resort also includes a multi-use lobby space designed for guest flexibility.
In addition to the Karuizawa opening, IHG plans to open Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park on October 1, 2025. This will be the second Holiday Inn & Suites property in Japan. The expansion in Sapporo adds to IHG’s growing presence in the country, which currently includes 55 hotels across 10 brands, with 12 properties under the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Resort brands.
The recent expansion follows the opening of ANA Holiday Inn Tokyo Bay in April 2025. Located in the Shinagawa/Tennozu area, this hotel offers views of Tokyo Bay from its 132 guestrooms and suites. The property features The Library Lounge, a café lounge with approximately 25,000 books and manga comics, offering a buffet-style breakfast and light snacks throughout the day.
IHG’s expansion in Japan is part of its broader strategy to increase its footprint in the region. The company continues to develop its offerings in both resort and urban settings.
