Barcelona’s is Opening its Abandoned ‘Ghost Stations’ for Free Visits This Autumn, Canada Reviews

19 September 20252 Mins Read

Barcelona is full of eerie places that could easily be featured in a horror movie, but none compare to the city’s mysterious abandoned metro stations. And now, for the first time ever, you’ll be able to step inside and explore them in person, as TMB, Barcelona’s public transport operator, throws open the doors of its ‘ghost stations’ this autumn.

The initiative is part of the celebrations for the metro’s centenary, and TMB will be offering almost 1,000 free spots to visit two long-forgotten stations in the Barcelona network – Correus and Gaudí – as well as opening up six other iconic spaces in the network so people can ‘see how TMB works through visits to workshops, simulators and the control centre’ according to CEO Xavier Flores.

How does the registration process work?

Visits to the ghost stations – as well as to the other metro spaces – are completely free, but you’ll need to register in advance. Registration opened on September 9 at 10am via the metro’s official website and will remain open until all the places are taken.

The first visits started the weekend of September 13-14, with the ghost station tours following in October and November. Below are all the dates, times and available places for each of the scheduled visits:

  • Metro Control Centre: September 13, 14, 20, 21 and October 4, 5, 25, 26
  • Simulator Room: September 13, 14, 20, 21 and October 4, 5, 25, 26
  • Mercat Nou Substation: September 13, 14, 20, 21 and October 4, 5, 25, 26
  • Santa Eulàlia Workshop: September 13, 14, 20 and October 4, 5, 25
  • ZAL Workshop: September 13, 20, 21 and October 4, 25
  • Urquinaona Spiral Staircase: September 13, 14, 20, 21 and October 4, 5, 25, 26
  • Gaudí Station: October 4, 5, 25, 26
  • Correus Station: October 20, 21, 22 and November 17, 18, 19

Oh, and while you’re here, check out our roundup of the best things to do in Barcelona.

Did you see that this European capital has been named the world’s ‘happiest’ place to visit?

Plus: It’s about to get more expensive for travellers to visit the USA.
