You can jam to Indigenous hip-hop and pop-up graffiti at this free Calgary event

23 September 20252 Mins Read

Get ready to jam — the final jam, that is! Free Wall YYC is heating things up one last time at The Confluence this weekend.

This September-long arts event will host its final showcase on Saturday, Sept. 27, with hip-hop performances and a drop-in graffiti jam.

All Calgarians are invited to enjoy the final day of this free celebration with local artisan vendors and pop-up arts activities hosted by Alcove.

It’ll all be soundtracked by some pretty exciting live hip-hop performances from “cultures of the world” presented by TRIBE Artist Society.

So come drop in and experience an outpouring of creativity at the convergence of Indigenous and hip-hop culture, all set where the Bow and the Elbow rivers meet.

What to expect

The final day of the exciting pilot project, Free Wall YYC, will take place this Sept. 27 in an all-day showcase held at The Confluence.

Soundtracked by live performances brought together by Indigenous-led TRIBE Artist Society, the event will also include local artists, vendors, and drop-in arts activities.

Free Wall YYC is a pilot project running all September, funded by Calgary Arts Development’s Public Art Microgrant. The project is open 24/7 for artists and art lovers to express themselves through street art, without the hurdle of obtaining permits.

The initiative helps provide a welcoming and safe space for street art to thrive in Calgary as a joint collaboration with Como se Dice, Alcove Centre for the Arts, and The Confluence.

The weekend event celebrates the completion of this pilot project with the hope of continuing similar initiatives in the near future.

You can expect riveting live music performances put on by Indigenous hip-hop artists and enthralling arts and crafts activities designed to stimulate your creativity at this family-friendly affair. We’ll see you there!

When: Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025
Time: 6 to 10 p.m.
Where: The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland — 750 9th Ave. SE
Cost: Free
