That Ontario cottage country charm does not wear out in the autumn. In fact, it gets even better. Gravenhurst is one of those scenic spots that should be explored year-round, and visitors can take in the sights of fall via boat cruise or by strolling downtown and along the waterfront.
One of the best ways to see Gravenhurst is via steamship! Muskoka Steamships offers rides during autumn where you can take to the waters of Lake Muskoka.
The fall foliage views are spectacular, and there are even dining options while aboard. Tickets go fast, so if you’re hoping to check out the steamships during October, book your spot ASAP.
Head to the historic Muskoka Wharf to get your steps in as you stroll along its scenic boardwalk.
The town’s downtown strip has a lineup of restaurants, cafes, and local shops to spend the day checking out. Some must-visits are Sawdust City Brewing Co. for a pint and a bite, or Burger Boys on Main for an incredible burger.
One thing you can’t do in the city is star gaze, so if you’re staying in Gravenhurst into the evening, you have to explore Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Reserve.
Torrance Barrens is the world’s first permanently designated Dark Sky Reserve, “providing panoramic views of the cosmos, including planets and constellations.”
There are a few trails within the conservation area you can hike before it gets dark, like the Main Trail, a 3.5 km loop with picturesque views.
