The best things to do for Alberta Culture Days in Edmonton

26 September 20253 Mins Read

Happy Alberta Culture Days!

For the entire month of September, Alberta hosts a month-long celebration of arts, culture, heritage, diversity, and community spirit. This weekend, a bunch of those events are hitting Edmonton for the ultimate Alberta Culture Days extravaganza.

There are more than a few events around the city, so without further ado, let’s get into it!

Events in Edmonton to check out

The Citadel Theatre is holding its events from Sept. 26 to 28, becoming a family-friendly centre for a fun-filled weekend. Its celebrations include a wardrobe sale, pre-show chats, a Wizard of Oz Family Film Festival, magical fairy tours, face painting, and so much more.

If you’re looking for something a bit more educational, the Royal Alberta Museum is giving free admission for the celebration on Sept. 27 and 28. If you’ve been waiting to check out the Orcas: Our Shared Future exhibit, now’s your chance! Special guests will also be joining the museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Fun doesn’t stop there, because the Art Gallery of Alberta will have a one-hour talk exploring the idea of home and belonging that inspired artist Emily Chu’s mural, Preserving Fragments. Chu is a Chinese illustrator and visual artist who will be featured this Saturday.

Free admission will also be available at the Rutherford House on Saturday and Sunday. There, you can explore the elegant house and learn about the Rutherfords’ love and passion for the arts and heritage.

Also, on Saturday, you can experience an unforgettable live art experience at Urban Art Studio 101. From 2 to 6 p.m., watch a portrait come to life before your eyes, painted by one of Edmonton’s dedicated artists.

To finish off the month and have a great kick-off to the end of Alberta Culture Days, you can join the Edmonton Short Film Festival for a meaningful Truth and Reconciliation film event from 4 to 6 p.m. on the 30th.

This event will celebrate Indigenous voices and storytelling through a showcase of short films by Indigenous creatives, as well as host talks by local Indigenous authors. In addition to this, Elder Terry Lusty will be joining the gathering to perform a smudging ceremony.

Have a great weekend, folks, and have fun at these Alberta Culture Day celebrations!
