How to solve the Reliquary of Strength puzzle in Ghost of Yōtei

4 October 20254 Mins Read

By solving the Reliquary of Strength in Ghost of Yōtei, you will receive a blessing from Mount Yotei to assist Atsu in her quest to hunt down the members of Yōtei Six and take vengeance upon Lord Saito.

After you have gained access to the Ishikari Plain region and while you prepare to face the Oni, you have the chance to go after a special piece of equipment hidden below an altar. Unlike Saito’s bandits and other enemies in Ghost of Yōtei, this challenge can’t be beaten with a sharp katana or deadly reflexes. You must study the movements of three statues and use a riddle to guide you to the solution.

Not a fan of riddles? Let us assist you in this mission. In our Ghost of Yōtei guide, we explain how to solve the Reliquary of Strength puzzle, where to find it, and the reward you receive after completing this challenge.

You can buy a map to this reliquary from the cartographer, but why not save your money? You can find the Reliquary of Strength in the Ishikari Plain region, northwest of Atsu’s home — you can refer to our full Ghost of Yōtei interactive map to orient yourself. (You must go through a couple of quests to open the gates that give you access to this area.)

After passing through Matsumae Encampment, head north. Next to Ishikari Fork, you will find the Reliquary of Strength.

Reliquary of Strength puzzle solution in Ghost of Yōtei

The Reliquary of Strength is composed of a main altar and four small statues around it. Only three, however, have red masks. If you would like to find the solution for yourself, follow the riddle which displayed on the altar.

If you want a quick solution, here’s what you need to do. You must rotate the three red-masked statues in a specific order, so all three are facing away from the altar in the center. Stand in front of the altar — facing the part where you can read the riddle — and using the numbers on each statue in the image below as a reference, follow these steps:

  1. Rotate statue one once.
  2. Rotate statue two twice.
  3. Rotate statue one once.
  4. Rotate statue three twice.

A short scene will play and Atsu will get her reward. If you rotate the wrong statue or spun it the incorrect number of times, you don’t need to worry. Open the map, select the Reliquary of Strength, and use the “Travel” command. This will reset the puzzle.

Reliquary of Strength reward in Ghost of Yōtei

Solving the Reliquary of Strength gives you the Charm of Mount Yōtei, or an upgrade for the charm if you’ve acquired it already. It provides a minor defense increase for Atsu, and can be upgraded by solving more Mountain Reliquary puzzles.

This reward is consistent with what we’ve earned from completing other reliquary puzzles, and suggests the rewards you get for completing this type of puzzle is dependent on how many of them you’ve completed. We’re still working our way through Ghost of Yōtei and will update this guide with more information when confirmed.

In the meantime, if you’re planning on getting lost in Ezo’s expanse, see our full Ghost of Yōtei interactive map.

If you’re just getting started on Atsu’s quest for justice, head over to our Ghost of Yōtei beginner’s guide for some essential tips. We’ve also got walkthroughs for the Reliquary of Resilience puzzle, an explainer for what your horse choice means, and help with tracking down Smiling Yoshimoto, an early bounty mission.
