You can tour a heritage house near Calgary that’s authentically haunted

7 October 20253 Mins Read

There are many rumours of hauntings in and around the Calgary area. But this heritage house in High River, Alta., may be the only one to report genuine paranormal activity by visitors, its owner and ghost hunters alike.

Mystic Manor is affectionately referred to as the “Superman house” by High River locals, a reference to Lana Lang’s home in Superman III, which was filmed there.

Today, the house still sees the odd Superman fan. But it more often attracts visitors on the hunt for the paranormal, who are looking to have an authentic encounter with the spirits that reside there.

What to expect

The house that is now known as Mystic Manor resides at 410 5th St. SE in High River, Alta. It was built in 1905 and once served as the community’s first hospital, with the basement acting as a temporary morgue.

Mystic Manor is owned by Faye Steinberg, a self-proclaimed psychic medium who claims that not only multiple spirits roam its halls but also an assortment of haunted objects are locked away inside.

Steinberg invites guests to bring their own items to the house, which she then tests for hauntings and displays on the third level of the house. Many artifacts are over 100 years old, and Steinberg claims the only ones she agrees to show are haunted.

Numerous unexplained sightings have occurred at the house, with some reported by Steinberg herself, others by visitors, and still others by professional ghost hunters who have featured the house on various television shows and other media.

Steinberg claims there are over 400 spirits in the house at any given time and that she has encountered a group of 30 ghosts in period clothing in the basement.

Steinberg has her own history with the house: her family purchased it in 2005, and she’s had encounters with the paranormal since the age of four. Steinberg boasts over 30 years of experience communicating with the ghosts inside and operating her own private practice as a psychic medium.

There’s perhaps no one better to guide you through this mysterious house and speak to its history, which is exactly what Steinberg aims to do at Mystic Manor.

Not your typical carnival haunt

Descriptions for Mystic Manor refer to it as an “immersive paranormal experience in a real haunted house” — nothing like the hokey carnival haunts you might encounter around Halloween.

It was Steinberg’s lifelong dream to own a real haunted house and to operate Mystic Manor, which offers a series of haunted tours and experiences year-round.

With scary season upon us, the month of October is one of the best times to experience this authentic haunted house after hours.

In fact, Mystic Manor recently debuted a new seance experience where visitors had the opportunity to be guided through a ceremony and communicate with the undead. The event was so in demand that it sold out, and Mystic Manor will be offering another second date on Oct. 18 at 9:30 p.m.

The Oct. 18th seance might be the best possible time to visit Mystic Manor and experience it for yourself alongside other paranormal enthusiasts.

Do you have the spine to survive this historic haunted house? Book an experience and see!
