A resort near Calgary styled like a Scottish castle was just crowned one of the world’s best

7 October 20252 Mins Read

There’s a well-known travel destination in Banff, Alta., whose dreamy châteauesque architecture and hillside mountain ambiance once captured the attention of starlet Marilyn Monroe.

Fairmont Banff Springs opened in the 1880s and has been a Canadian luxury holiday destination for well over a hundred years.

It’s been the subject of films, visited by movie stars, and has hosted dignitaries from around the world.

With such a long history of excellence in hospitality, it’s no wonder that the locale has earned international recognition.

Recently, readers of Condé Nast Traveller magazine voted it in as one of the best global resort experiences, giving it an over 96 per cent satisfaction rate.

A castle in the Rockies

Even when it was completed in 1888, the château-style architecture of Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel sparked discussion.

Bruce Price, an American architect who was selected to design the hotel, blended French Loire Valley Renaissance and Scottish Baronial elements in a château-style hotel design that was both eclectic and traditional.

In Canada, Fairmont Banff Springs became a point of reference for other railway hotel designs, including the Château Frontenac, the Fairmont Empress, and the Château Laurier.

The hotel is located in Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with breathtaking mountain views that have captivated many star-studded celebrities over the years.

Over the past century, the hotel has cemented its position amongst the best of the best in hospitality, becoming a member of Historic Hotels Worldwide in 2018.

This recent accolade from readers of Condé Nast Traveller magazine just confirms the magic of this castle nestled at the foot of Rundle Mountain.

You can read the complete list of global Condé Nast Traveller Reader’s Choice Awards winners, then get to booking your trip to Fairmont Banff Springs.

The popular hotel takes the crown for a Scottish-style castle holiday. It’s time to plan your next dream staycation!
