How to solve the Reliquary of Compassion puzzle in Ghost of Yōtei

8 October 20254 Mins Read

The Reliquary of Compassion in Ghost of Yōtei is a puzzle that’ll reward you with a gift from Mount Yōtei. The journey to find the Reliquary of Compassion is a difficult one, making Atsu face the dangers of freezing winds.

The effort to prevail over the weather and find your way to this specific reliquary is worthwhile whether this is your first reliquary puzzle or not. And we can help you with our Ghost of Yōtei guide, showing how to solve the Reliquary of Compassion puzzle, where to find it, and explaining the rewards you can get from it. If you’re having trouble navigating your way around the map, be sure to check out our Ghost of Yōtei interactive map.

However, before you start your trek to the Reliquary of Compassion, make sure you’ve upgraded your Hankyu bow at least once to unlock fire arrows.

The Reliquary of Compassion is located on the north side of Teshio Ridge. To reach the Reliquary of Compassion, head to the northern side of Sarobetsu Lake, where you’ll find a red torii gate and the entrance to the Chilled Peak Shrine.

Navigating your way up the path is similar to other shrines. You’ll need to climb walls and jump from branches like usual, but this time, you’ll need to stand beside campfires to keep warm.

Follow the path until you slide onto a frozen lake with a campfire on your right. Rather than heading to the campfire, you want to go to the left — where there’s another fire — and follow the trail upwards. It will take you to an opening you can squeeze through to access the Reliquary of Compassion.

As we mentioned before, you must have the Altered Hankyu bow, which is the first upgrade for the Hankyu bow and how you unlock fire arrows. If you don’t have it, visit the Yōtei’s Shadow Inn and talk to Ran, the Bowyer.

Armed with your Altered Hankyu bow, it’s time to work on the Reliquary of Compassion puzzle. First, use fire arrows to light the bowls in front of the four fox statues. This will keep Atsu warm and give you some time to turn each statue.

To receive your rewards, you need to turn the statues to have the wolves’ eyes on the mountain’s hearth.

To help you solve the Reliquary of Compassion puzzle, we’ve numbered the statues, which can be seen in the image above. Follow the instructions below to complete the puzzle:

  1. Turn statue one once.
  2. Turn statue two twice.
  3. Turn statue one once.
  4. Turn statue three twice.
  5. Turn statue four twice.

Once the last statue stops moving, a short scene will play, and you will receive your rewards. If you made a mistake, don’t worry because you can reset the puzzle by fast traveling to the reliquary.

The Reliquary of Compassion’s rewards will depend on the number of reliquaries you’ve already solved. If this is your first reliquary, you’ll receive the Charm of Mount Yōtei, which increases Atsu’s defense.

On the other hand, if the Reliquary of Compassion is not the first you’ve solved, then you will receive an upgrade to the Charm of Mount Yōtei, increasing the defense bonus, as well as a piece of gear. The gear you receive will also vary depending on how many reliquaries you’ve completed.

If you’re just getting started on Atsu’s quest for justice, head over to our Ghost of Yōtei beginner’s guide for some essential tips. We’ve also got walkthroughs for the Reliquary of Strength and Reliquary of Resilience puzzles, an explainer for what your horse choice means, and help with tracking down Smiling Yoshimoto, an early bounty mission.
